Response :“Fishery associations and private sector jointly launch FIP to preserve Goa and Ratnagiri coasts sustainability”
In response to a press release by Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL “Fishery associations and private sectors jointly launch FIP to preserve Goa and Ratnagiri coasts sustainability”, IFFO RS Limited is delighted to hear of the progress of Charoen Pokphand, but also of the progress of the Indian Fishmeal & Fish oil Exporters Association (IFAFEA) to support Fisheries Improvement Projects (FIPs) as part of their strong intention to promote responsibility in the supply chain of fisheries and related products in India.
At this current stage IFFO RS (an initiative started by IFFO the Marine Ingredient Organisation) cannot be directly involved in these FIPs as it is the independent standard holder. However, IFFO RS strongly welcomes and encourages these initiatives with the hope that in the near future fishmeal and fish oil producers in India may be ready to officially apply and be accepted on to the IFFO RS Improvers Programme with the end goal of applying and achieving full IFFO RS certification.
IFFO RS developed and organised the IFFO RS Improver Programme, which is aligned to the full IFFO RS certification programme. The IFFO RS Improvers Programme initiative is to encourage marine ingredient producing factories that, at present, would be unable to meet the IFFO RS Standard, either because of a lack of fisheries management, or factory infrastructure and operational issues, to the implement improvements that would allow the marine ingredient manufacturer to eventually comply with the IFFO RS Standard.
The agreed route decided by the IFFO RS Governance Board was to support these organisations through a structured IFFO RS Improvers Programme which will insist that all applicants once accepted on to this process will need to have a defined improvement journey, with agreed time frames and milestones that must be achieved which will eventually lead them to meet the requirements of the IFFO RS Standard. A full list of all current accepted sites to the IFFO RS Improvers Programme can be found on the IFFO RS website via the following link https://www.iffors.com/improvers-programme-accepted-sites
