"MarinTrust shares the disappointment of all stakeholders involved in the seafood value chain following the suspension of MSC certificates for Blue whiting and Atlanto Scandian herring. It has been shown that intergovernmental cooperation between European coastal states has failed and this so far seems to be the only reason for this suspension.

As a consequence of the recognition process between MSC and our standard, MarinTrust will stop recognising the Blue whiting and the Atlanto Scandian herring fisheries as MSC certified material that can be used to produce MarinTrust certified products. This will apply from the time the MSC suspension enters into force until the MSC certificate is restored.

Working with other standard holders that share the same objectives for responsibility in the seafood industry is key for the success of the assurance of the industry. Robust verification procedures between MarinTrust and MSC ensure that raw materials are fully authenticated as compliant MSC sources."
