Combined world production of MarinTrust compliant material
In 2024, MarinTrust certified production continued to play a central role in the global marine ingredients market. 43% of global fishmeal and fish oil production was MarinTrust certified. However, when we include production from facilities accepted under the Improver Programme this share rises to 48%.
As shown in the chart below, MarinTrust certified production has demonstrated a stable and sustained contribution to the global marine ingredients market over time. The chart presents rolling five-year averages – from 2012–2017 through to 2020–2024 – which illustrate that certified production has consistently accounted for a significant share of global fishmeal and fish oil output. Most recently, an average of 44% of global production from 2020 to 2024 was MarinTrust certified.
MarinTrust also certifies the production of other marine ingredients, such as hydrolysates. In 2024, certified production reached 95,000 metric tonnes, up from 81,000 in 2023 – a 17% increase.
Looking ahead:
- Many Improver Programme accepted facilities are on track to complete full certification, representing a strong pipeline of future growth.
- The expansion of certified ingredient types opens new opportunities to support sustainability across the wider marine ingredients sector.
- The online application portal has made it easier than ever for companies around the world to apply for MarinTrust certification.
With nearly half of global fishmeal and fish oil production now MarinTrust-aligned, the Standard remains a key driver of responsible practice and market confidence.
The pie chart below shows the country-level distribution of MarinTrust certified fishmeal and fish oil production in 2024.
