1. Privacy Policy for Applicants and Certificate Holders

We ask that you read this Privacy Policy carefully as it contains important information on who we are, how and why we collect, store, use and share personal information, your rights in relation to your personal information and how to contact us and the supervisory authorities in the event you have a complaint.

1.1 Who we are

We are Marine Ingredients Certifications Ltd (the "Company"), a company limited by shares incorporated in the UK under company registration number 09357209, the registered office of which is Unit C Printworks, 22 Amelia Street, London, SE17 3BZ. The Company is an international organisation that runs an independent third-party certification programme called MarinTrust (the "Programme") (the "Service"). We also make available information about us, our Certified and accepted Improver Programme facilities, and our third party MarinTrust registered Certification Bodies and auditors through our website at www.marin-trust.com (the "Site").

Currently there are 3 types of applications and application forms for the Programme: 

  • Enquiry for Certification against the MarinTrust Standard
  • Enquiry for Certification against the MarinTrust Chain of Custody Standard
  • Enquiry for acceptance into the MarinTrust Improver Programme

Where the Company does collect unique identifying information, such as names, addresses and other information on the application forms, where you visit the facility and your IP address is captured, where we send you marketing information such as newsletters or promotions, or in the context of our day-to-day business operations, we do so strictly in accordance with the relevant data protection laws which apply across the European Union and the United Kingdom (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2018 and the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation) (the "Data Protection Laws") and we are responsible as 'controller' of that personal information for the purposes of those laws. 

1.2 The personal information we collect and use

In the course of providing the Service we collect the following personal information when you provide it to us or if we acquire it through our day-to-day business: 

  1. Master ID Data: first name and surname, job title, contact details (e.g. address, email address).
  2. Usage Data: automatically collected information e.g. meta-data, device data, log data, geographic/regional location, tracking and web analytics, IP addresses.
  3. Transactional Data: invoices, any transactional records containing unique identifying information.
  4. Media Data: photographs, videos, audio, news clips that we take or that are taken by our employees, agents, or contractors.
  5. Any other personal information you may provide to us or which we acquire through our day-to-day business.

1.3 Information collected from other sources 

We also obtain personal information from other sources as follows: 

We obtain full audit reports, including details of non-conformances, from our MarinTrust registered Certification Bodies. Further names, addresses, email address, contact details, may also be captured from those who were in attendance on the day of audit. 

1.4 How we use your personal information

We use your personal information as follows: 

  1. The personal data that you provide in completing the application forms (such as your name, job title and contact details) is used for the application and certification or acceptance process. 
  2. Communications and continuing interactions with the Company, including but not limited to:
    • your participation in MarinTrust certification standardisation activities, for which your declaration on the application form demonstrates your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. Data provided will be used only for such purposes as are described or evident at the point of completing the form. 
    • your subscriptions to MarinTrust newsletters, and any other subscription or marketing campaigns including for training, events and photographs. 
    • any other interaction with MarinTrust not listed above. 
  3. Website traffic analysis.
  4. Running our business affairs, including internal record keeping.
  5. Processing your annual fee for the respective programme.
  6. Providing content for our print media, digital media and any other type of promotional media.

1.5 Who we share your personal information with

So as to enable the conducting of a full and thorough assessment and audit, we routinely share personal data such as your name, job title, contact details, email, address with our employees, contractors, agents and MarinTrust registered third party Certification Bodies, a full list of which can be found here: https://www.marin-trust.com/about/our-assurance/certification-bodies (the "Certification Bodies"). 

Specific examples of these Certification Bodies are: 

  1. NSF/Global Trust Certification Limited: www.nsf.org

  4. Any other third-party Certification Bodies that we may approve of which you will be notified as part of privacy policy updates

NSF/Global Trust Certification Limited's critical office is based in Ireland, with a head office in the United States of America. LRQA Seafood Limited's critical office is based in Edinburgh, UK. SGS del Peru SAC is based in Lima, Peru, and shares applicant information with subsidiaries worldwide in order for them to carry out audits. As a result, your personal information may be accessed by the Certification Bodies, contractors, agents and employees in Peru and in other countries outside the UK and EU/EEA. 

We require that all the Certification Bodies, contractors, agents and employees enter into the requisite contractual agreements which require that they comply with the requisite Data Protection Laws. 

We will share personal information with law enforcement or other authorities if required by applicable law. We will not share your personal information with any other third party.

1.6 How long your personal information will be kept

The Company will retain your Personal Data for the duration of the contract with the respective programme in accordance with applicable legal requirements, and only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as long as required by law or to defend potential legal claims. 1.7 Reasons we can collect and use your personal information

We rely on processing being necessary for the performance of the Service and the provision of the facility. We rely on the grounds of performance of the contract and/or legitimate interest as the lawful basis on which we collect and use your Master ID Data, Usage Data and Transactional Data. 

We rely on consent as the ground on which we process Media Data and any contact we make with you for marketing and promotion including training modules, newsletters, and events. 

1.8 Consequences of our use of your personal information

We will disclose your personal data to any of the Certification Bodies, contractors and affiliates who assist us in providing the Service. The Certification Bodies, agents, contractors and affiliates will only use your information to the extent necessary to perform their functions. 

We may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or if we believe that such action is necessary to prevent fraud or cybercrime or to protect the Site, or the rights, property, or personal safety of any person. 

1.9 Your rights

Under Data Protection Laws, you have a number of important rights, subject to certain exemptions, that you can exercise free of charge. In summary, these include the right to:

  • fair processing of information and transparency over how we use your use personal information
  • access to your personal information
  • require us to correct any mistakes in your information which we hold
  • require the erasure of incorrect personal information concerning you
  • receive the personal information concerning you which you have provided to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and have the right to transmit those data to a third party in certain situations
  • object at any time to processing of personal information concerning you for direct marketing
  • object to decisions being taken by automated means which produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you
  • otherwise restrict our processing of your personal information in certain circumstances

1.10 Keeping your personal information secure

We have appropriate security measures in place to prevent personal data from being accidentally lost or used or accessed in an unauthorised way. We limit access to your personal data to those who have a genuine business need to know it. Those processing your information will do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality. We also have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data security breach. We will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so. 

1.11 How to complain

We hope that we can resolve any query or concern you raise about our use of your information. The Data Protection Laws also give you the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in the UK or the EU/European Economic Area depending on where you work, normally live or where any alleged infringement of data protection laws occurred. 1.12 Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy was last updated on 06/02/2026. In case of any material changes to the way in which the Company collects or uses personal data, the type of personal data it collects or any other aspect of this Privacy Policy, the Company will issue a revised Privacy Policy by posting a link to the revised policy on its Site with an effective date.

2. Privacy Policy for Non-Applicants and Non-Certificate Holders

2.1 Who we are

We are Marine Ingredients Certifications Ltd (the "Company"), a company limited by shares incorporated in the UK under company registrations number 09357209, the registered office of which is Unit C Printworks, 22 Amelia Street, London, SE17 3BZ. The Company is an international organisation that runs an independent third-party certification programme called MarinTrust (the "Programme") (the "Service"). This notice is provided for our affiliated businesses including IFFO (2012) Ltd; registered third party Certification Bodies; our governing body & committees; consultants; and organisations of which we are members ("Non-Applicants and Non-Certificate Holders"). 

Where the Company does collect unique identifying information, such as names, addresses and other information from Non-Applicants and Non-Certificate Holders in the context of our day-to-day business operations, we do so strictly in accordance with the relevant data protection laws which apply across the European Union and the United Kingdom (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2018 and the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation) (the "Data Protection Laws") and we are responsible as 'controller' of that personal information for the purposes of those laws.

2.8 Keeping your personal information secure

2.10 Notice updates

This privacy notice was last updated on 11/03/2026. In case of any material changes to the way in which the Company collects or uses personal data, the type of personal data it collects or any other aspect of this Privacy Policy, the Company will issue a revised Privacy Policy. 

2.11 Sharing of non-personal data with third-parties

MarinTrust have a data sharing agreement with IFFO, the Marine Ingredients Organisation. These data will only include non-personal data such as production volumes. Should MarinTrust determine that a data sharing agreement with other third parties is of benefit to our stakeholders, this will be communicated to our stakeholders ahead of any relevant information exchange. 

Any data shared publicly or with third parties will be shared in line with international anti-trust regulations, meaning that all information will be published only in aggregated form and will include data from a minimum of five producing companies, to prevent the identification or estimation of individual companies’ production volumes. 

Further, all certificate holders and Improver Programme facilities will be informed regarding this data sharing agreement and will have the opportunity to opt out of their non-personal data being included in any collated dataset.  

2.12 How long your data will be kept

2.13 Data ownership

All data shared with MarinTrust will be owned by the company who shared them.  

MarinTrust will own any data visualisation or reporting that results from these data, however all stakeholders who have shared their data may have access to these on request.
