Social and Ethical Committee
The MarinTrust Social and Ethical Committee (SEC) was established to support the TAC with the development and implementation of credible, robust and realistic criteria focusing on human rights and social welfare within the MarinTrust Programme. It manages all aspects on social and ethical matters relating to the development of the MarinTrust Certification Programme Criteria, including the social and ethical relevance and appropriateness of the programme for use as a Third Party, Accredited Certification Programme. This committee meets at least twice a year and when required.

Birgitte Krogh-Poulsen has over 20 years of global experience in social development and human rights work, mostly in Europe, Africa and Asia. Birgitte started her own consulting business in 2010 and runs it out of her home country, Denmark. She has previously worked for NIRAS Consulting Engineers and Planners and for the International Labour Organization (ILO). She has lived and worked in several countries, including India, Tanzania, Thailand and Zambia. Birgitte specialises in the elimination of child labour, forced labour and human trafficking, and also works in the related fields of child protection, access to education and gender equality. She works extensively with different stakeholders in the seafood industry to promote socially sustainable seafood. In addition, she works on studies, strategic planning and policy formulation with governments and other partners around the world, such as her current work to support the renewed ASEAN Roadmap on the elimination of child labour. In addition to her consulting assignments, she serves on several advisory committees and boards.

El Dr. Daniel Lee es un especialista en acuicultura multilingüe con experiencia en el diseño, implementación y gestión de nuevos proyectos. Ha sido el coordinador de estándares de las mejores prácticas de acuicultura de GAA desde el inicio del programa. Trabaja en estrecha colaboración con el Comité de Supervisión de Normas de BAP y ayuda a guiar y coordinar sus comités técnicos. Lee también gestiona proyectos de investigación en acuicultura para el Centro de Ciencias Marinas Aplicadas de la Universidad de Bangor en el Reino Unido, en particular sobre los impactos ambientales de la acuicultura tropical y el desarrollo de sistemas con impactos mínimos. Publicó el libro de texto Crustacean Farming, Ranching and Culture.
Daphne Guelker is a qualified lawyer who leads UL Responsible Sourcing’s Advisory Services Team. With her legal background and expertise in responsible sourcing laws and international standards, Daphne provides focused advisory services and thought leadership to companies and initiatives, particularly in the areas of labour practices, human rights and raw materials traceability. She is also responsible for the development and execution of customised client research projects in the realm of responsible sourcing and advises companies on responsible sourcing program development and implementation. To complement her role, Daphne has conducted social, environmental and traceability assessments across Southeast Asia, Europe and North Africa and has developed responsible sourcing programs for brands, retailers and associations and lead law and international standards research efforts in support of UL’s social and environmental auditing services for over 100 countries.
Daphne is fluent in English, German and Spanish.
Dave Martin is Director for Aquaculture and Reduction Fisheries at SFP. He returns to SFP following a position as Corporate Director of Sustainability for Aqua Star, where he oversaw fisheries and aquaculture improvements as well as lead engagement on addressing social issues in the seafood supply chain for one of the largest importers of farmed shrimp in North America. At SFP, Dave oversees all of SFP’s aquaculture programs, as well as efforts to promote improvements in reduction fisheries—those that supply marine ingredients—globally. Dave has been involved in conservation efforts for more than 25 years, focusing on working with communities in Siberia, the Russian Far East, Oregon, and throughout the Pacific Rim to promote sustainability, civil society, habitat conservation and restoration, wilderness and natural resource protection. Dave earned MAs in both International Policy Studies and Russian Translation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and a BA in Political Science and Russian Studies from the University of Iowa. He is based in Portland, OR.
Dave Robb is the Program Lead for SeaFurther™, the signature sustainability initiative of Cargill Aqua Nutrition. Having worked on sustainability issues in aqua feeds for more than 15 years, he has experience across a broad range of issues, from supply chain to how feeds can enable more sustainable farming. Working on sustainability can cover just about every aspect of the business, requiring a great degree of flexibility and collaboration within the business. In Cargill, this also means working across species as diverse as salmon, shrimp, tilapia and even alligators!
Through SeaFurther, Cargill is focusing on reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our customers’ farming activities, which also supports development across a broad range of other topics related to sustainability. Cargill addresses sustainability through our value chain, from our raw material suppliers to how well our customers can grow their seafood using our nutritional products and services. Robb is working with Cargill teams and with our partners throughout the value chain from origin to end consumer to create sustainable developments – and transform, measure and report the benefits.
Estelle Brennan BSc, es una consagrada Gerente Técnica, especialista en sostenibilidad y comercio ético, con más de 20 años de experiencia en roles técnicos y de sostenibilidad en la industria alimentaria. Actualmente es Jefa de Sostenibilidad del Reino Unido para Labeyrie Fine Foods, presidenta del Seafish Seafood Ethics Common Language Group y miembro del Comité de Supervisión de Estándares de GAA.
Francisco Aldon MSc, se unió a IFFO en 2010 y se convirtió en Jefe de Operaciones en MarinTrust en 2015, cuando se convirtió en un organismo independiente antes de ascender a la Oficina Ejecutiva en 2019. También es Presidente del Comité Técnico de MarinTrust y del Comité del Programa de Mejoras.
Gonzalo de Romaña
Gonzalo de Romaña is the CEO of Peruvian fishmeal and fish oil producer Tecnológica de Alimentos (TASA). He has been a member of the IFFO Board of Directors since 2018.
Gonzalo de Romaña has wide experience within the fishing industry due to his time working as TASA’s CFO between 2010-2014. He has been the CEO of TASA since 2017. His previous roles include CEO of Centria (2014-2016), a service and administration company of BRECA Group, and CEO of Hoja Redonda (2016), an agro-industrial company of BRECA Group. De Romaña has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Universidad de Lima and an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Libby Woodhatch MSc, ha trabajado durante más de 20 años en la cadena de suministro de productos del mar y en el desarrollo de estándares. Antes de convertirse en Presidenta Ejecutiva de MarinTrust, fue Jefa de Promoción en Seafish, donde su mandato incluía el desarrollo del estándar del Esquema de Pesca Responsable (RFS por sus siglas en inglés) y un programa más amplio en ética de mariscos. Libby fue Directora Ejecutiva del organismo industrial Seafood Scotland durante diez años, donde ayudó a mejorar el valor del retorno a la industria pesquera escocesa. Durante este tiempo, ella también fue parte del Consejo de Grupos de Interés del MSC. Libby es Fideicomisaria de la Misión de Pescadores, que brinda asistencia social y apoyo a los pescadores y sus familias, y de la Escuela de Mariscos Billingsgate.

Mike has over 30 years’ experience working with standards and improvement strategies for the Seafood industry within the UK and across the globe. He is currently a partner in RS Standards and prior to this has held numerous management positions within Seafish, Sainsbury’s, SAI Global (Global Trust) and more recently as a director in MSC, which is an internationally based sustainability program where he oversaw the programme integrity through the implementation of Chain of Custody standards for all sectors of the seafood supply chain.
During his time with RS Standards Mike has played a key role in the development of MarinTrust’s new Chain of Custody Standard Version 2. He is the lead consultant for Global Seafood Assurance (GSA) for the redevelopment of the Responsible Fishing Standard into a new globally accessible Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard based on social criteria for the wild capture fishing fleets.
In addition, Mike is also an experienced seafood lead auditor and training instructor for several programs which include Chain of Custody, Risk Assessment, Quality Management systems, Seafood Safety and HACCP.
Tracy Cambridge is the Responsible Sourcing Director (Europe) for Thai Union Group PCL.
Tracy has been involved in the maritime industry for more than 20 years, focusing on seafood for the last decade. She has worked across government, private and non-governmental sectors in a broad range of areas including management of natural resources, working requirements, and sustainability in supply chains.
Tracy has also had professional training and gained a wealth of experience in auditing supply chains against environment and social standards, writing and implementing standards, project and programme management and fundraising.
At Thai Union, Tracy’s responsibilities involve collaborating with stakeholders and customers, leading the implementation of Thai Union’s Fishing Vessel Improvement Program and Code of Conduct, and delivery of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative work plan.
Tracy holds an MSc in Aquatic Resource Management from Kings College London, and a BSc in Marine Geography.
